Columbia Organisation

• Columbia is the oldest brand name in pre-recorded sound
• It is owned by Sony Music Entertainment (this is Columbia Records parent company),  Arista is now a sister label to Columbia Records
• Columbia records is a major company, its ownership with Sony Music Entertainment is significant in knowing it is a stable organisation in the media.
• Sony Music Entertainment is a leading company and supports Columbia Records, this helps our group as we know we have chosen a well known organisation which will expand our idea's in producing our artist.

• Columbia Records has a wide range of genre's within there music, evidence of this is through all there signed artists. The image below is off the official website of Columbia Records.

• The Genre suggests they would get a mass audience, all different ages and gender's.
• Our group's chosen genre is 'Soul Pop' which is well known in Columbia Records although this organisation looks at these as two separate genre's whereas we will combine them, looking through our research such as the questionnaire, we have an idea of the mass audience we will be targeting which is females from young ages to adults. Columbia Records target the same audience as we do through the genre 'Soul Pop.'

One of the main artists signed to Columbia Records which our group as looked at in great detail is 'Adele', this artist is a representation of our chosen genre and types of audiences that will we be targeting.

'She's just 19, but Adele Laurie Blue Adkins - you can call her simply Adele - sings like a woman three times her age, a soul sensation in her native U.K.  who is poised to conquer America with 19, her debut album, which comes out in the States on XL /Columbia Records after debuting at #1 in the British charts.'

This review is sufficient in showing the standards of the artists signed to Columbia Records and represents Columbia Records as a major success by its production of music.

• Celine Dion is another signed artist to Columbia Records, who's music is our chosen genre. Celine Dion became one of the biggest international stars in Soul Pop music history, selling more than 100 million albums worldwide. Her success is through the organisation of Columbia Records.

• Columbia Records distributor is 'Columbia Label Group'
•  RCA Label Group mainly deals with Pop and RnB and Columbia Label Group mainly deal with Rock, Dance and Alternative music. Mike Smith is the Managing Director of Columbia Label Group, Angie Somerside is the General Manager.
• Columbia Records production elements are through successful artists.

• Columbia Records are suitable for our project as the organisation deals with the same types of genre and audiences that are group will be looking at and using to produce our artist. The organisation is a great success and stable which will help us in following there work throughout our project.They are a simple straight forward organisation which is what our group needs in understanding the different aspects of artists in the music industry.
